Club History
The club is 31 years old and began back in 1990 when two local lads, Antony Constantine and Matthew Glew teamed up with Stephen Wetherell to form Bucanner Brough. The football club was born, starting life in the Hull Sunday Football League Division 20. That first season the club finished 6th and were promoted up to Division 17.
Season 1991/1992 saw a change in names as the club became Ferry Inn AFC, a name they would keep for many years. That season saw another promotion, and this run of promotions ran for a further 4 seasons.
Season 1996 / 1997 and 1997 / 1998 saw the team finish just short of promotion position, and the 1998 / 1999 season was the first time the team won a league title – league Division 5. The following season the club managed to do it again, this time winning the restructured league systems Division 2 Wyke. Season 2000 / 2001 was another successful season when the team reached a major cup final in the Champions of Champions, only to be beaten by Prestige Brighams.
The following 2 seasons were steady with mid table finishes and by 2003 the club were back to winning ways and gained promotion to the Hull Men’s Sunday Football League Premier Division. After relegation the following year the club were promoted again, and the club remained in the top flight for many years becoming a well established and well respected team across the region.
Approaching the 2009 / 2010 season and the 20 year anniversary of the club the name changed again as the club moved to Blackburn Leisure and became AFC Blackburn Leisure.
Many successes have followed with men’s team reaching the Munro Cup Final in 2012 / 2013 finishing runners up to Sutton Fields.
The Veterans team was established in 2007 and reached 4 cup finals in the seasons from 2013 to 2018, unfortunately losing all 4.
In the 2014 / 2015 season the men’s team finished in its highest ever league position. Over the last decade the club have also played many seasons in the Men’s National Sunday League Cup.
More recently the men’s team entered the Humber Cup, defeating 4 Hull sides, winning the North Bank final and then took on the South Bank Winners Seven Seas in the overall final, only to go down 4-2 on the day.
Glory was finally achieved for the Veterans team in 2021 with the team winning the Division 1 title.
The club continues to go from strength to strength.
